World Food Day and World Food Summit
Czech Republic Commemorates World Food Day 2003
Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic, in cooperation with the National FAO
Committee, has organized a special seminar on the occasion of World Food Day (16 October)
and the World Rural Women's Day (15 October). During this event, issues such as world hunger,
poverty, food security, food safety, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity, healthy
nutrition and lifestyles, and other nutrition topics were addressed. Czech Radio 1 -
Radiozurnal featured the World Food Day (WFD) celebration in one of their programs.

Report of The Czech Republic on Action Plan of World Food Summit 1999
Access of all Czech citizens to nutritionally appropriate and healthy food in sufficient
quantity is ensured by legislation and social policy. Every Czech citizen has basic access to
food in appropriate quantity thanks to social security benefits and secured minimum income.
Quality of production and ecological aspects of production are legally set up and they are
at European level. Their observation is constantly controlled by inspection institutions
at all production levels. Potential occurrence of diseases and infections are monitored
and in case that an epidemics occurs special protection and prevention measures are adopted
and implemented. Basic education is free and accessible to all citizens of the Czech
Republic.
